The Crab Pulsar and Nebula as Seen in Gamma-Rays

چکیده
Slightly more than 30 years ago, Whipple detection of the Crab Nebula was start Very High Energy gamma-ray astronomy. Since then, observations this source have continued to provide new surprises and challenges theories, with fast variability, pulsed emission up unexpectedly high energy, very recent photons energy exceeding 1 PeV. In article, we review impact on our understanding extraordinary accelerator.

Very High Energy Gamma Rays from the Vela Pulsar/nebula
We have observed the Vela pulsar region at TeV energies using the 3.8 m imaging Čerenkov telescope near Woomera, South Australia every year since 1992. This is the first concerted search for pulsed and unpulsed emission from the Vela region, and the imaging technique also allows the location of the emission within the field of view to be examined. A significant excess of gamma-ray-like events i...
متن کاملSpectrum of Tev Gamma Rays from the Crab Nebula
The Crab Nebula has become established as the standard candle for TeV gamma-ray astronomy using the atmospheric Cherenkov technique. No evidence for variability has been seen. The spectrum of gamma rays from the Crab Nebula has been measured in the energy range 500 GeV to 8 TeV at the Whipple Observatory by the atmospheric Cherenkov imaging technique. Two methods of analysis involving independe...
متن کاملOn pulsed emission of TeV gamma rays from Crab Pulsar
We have observed crab pulsar in the TeV energy band using the Pachmarhi Array of Cherenkov Telescopes (PACT) for about 90 hrs. Our observations span about 6 year period from 2000 to 2006. In the past we presented evidence of pulsed emission of TeV -rays from this source while few other groups did not see any evidence for pulsed emissions at these energies. We have re-analysed our data using new...
متن کاملThe size of the emission region of VHE gamma rays in the Crab Nebula
The HEGRA system of imaging atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes provides for specially selected classes of events an angular resolution of better than 3'. By comparing the measured angular distribution of TeV gamma rays from the Crab Nebula with the distribution expected on the basis of Monte Carlo simulations, and with measurements of gamma rays from the point source Mrk 501, we conclude that the...
متن کاملObservations of the Crab Nebula and Pulsar with VERITAS
Observations of the Crab Nebula have proven to be the best tool to calibrate and to characterize the performance of a Cherenkov telescope. Scientifically, it is interesting to measure the energy spectrum of the Crab Nebula close to the inverse-Compton peak where a deviation is expected from the power law seen at energies above 300 GeV. Additionally, it is important to search for pulsed emission...
